The Profile of Educators as Gate Keepers on Recognizing Trauma, Depression & Suicide in Students

Abstract


Gejolak dan dinamika masyarakat dunia di era Postglobalisasi, menimbulkan salah satu penyakit akut terbesar yakni kecemasan global. Kecemasan yang berlebihan masyarakat dunia mengakibatkan efek depresi yang secara sistematis dan masiv yakni dengan munculnya angka kematian akibat bunuh diri. Di Indonesia, angka bunuh diri menunjukkan peningkatan yang cukup signifikan dari tahun ke tahun. Seting pendidikan yang juga menjadi salah satu penyumbang berbagai kasus kematian akibat bunuh diri. Depresi, perilaku yang bertujuan untuk menyakiti diri sendiri (self-injurious), keinginan untuk mengakhiri hidup (suicide attempt) serta perilaku bunuh diri merupakan fenomena yang dapat dicegah apabila diketahui gejala-gejala awal timbulnya perilaku tersebut. Gatekeeper terdiri dari para pendidik mulai dari seting sekolah hingga perguruan tinggi. Mereka menjadi pihak pertama yang berperan penting dalam upaya mengenali dan mengidentifikasi serta melaporkan gejala-gejala awal depresi yang dialami peserta didik kepada para helper (konselor, psikolog, psikiatri). Melalui peningkatan peran pendidik sebagai Gatekeeper, diharapkan mengurangi angka trauma, depresi dan bunuh diri secara signifikan, terutama pada seting pendidikan.
