Abstract

This study aims to describe women's participation in Islamic Education in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. The design of this research is a qualitative research, a library research approach. Data were analyzed using a descriptive comparative analysis approach on the social construction of gender differences that gave birth to gender inequalities in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. The results of the study show that there are still gaps in women's education participation, especially in Islamic education, this can be seen that there are still restrictions on opportunities to receive education and there is still a gender bias in subject matter and classical texts that must be reinterpreted. All parties involved in Islamic educational institutions must be sensitive to the gaps that occur, both in the learning process, and in textbooks that are gender biased, which are still often found in subject matter that visualizes women in an inferior position and men in superior position. Also included in the study of religious texts which were found to contain interpretations of misogyny (hatred of women). This requires sensitivity and awareness to reconstruct the context of inequality together.
