Abstract

This study was prepared with the aim of describing the tradition of slaughtering wedhus kendhit animals as a means of repelling bad luck in Demak Regency, the procedure for implementing wedhus kendhit slaughter as a means of repelling bad luck in Demak Regency, and the values contained in the tradition of slaughtering wedhus kendhit animals as a means of repelling bad luck. To achieve these objectives, researchers used a field research method with a qualitative approach of the phenomenological type. After the data is collected, it is analyzed using the social construction theory of Peter L., Berger and Thomas Luckman about subjective reality, symbolic reality, and objective reality. Then to find out the values contained in the procession of slaughtering wedhus kendhit animals as a means of bad luck, researchers used descriptive-explorative analysis. From a series of studies that have been conducted, it can be seen that the procedure for slaughtering wedhus kendhit animals as a means of warding off bad luck in Demak Regency begins with finding suitable wedhus kendhit animals, slaughtering wedhus kendhit animals, praying together and distributing wedhus kendhit animal meat to the surrounding community. The existence of the tradition of slaughtering wedhus kendhit, especially in the Demak Regency area, has good values for social life. These values include the value of religiosity, the value of unity and the value of togetherness.
